Where to Stay in Montréal In 2026

Place Ville Marie and The Ring sculpture in downtown Montréal with Mount Royal in the background, featured in The Queen of Trips guide on where to stay in Montréal 2026.

I’ve visited Montréal five times in the past two years, and each trip has shown me a different side of the city. I’ve sipped espresso in five-star hotels and swapped stories with backpackers over late-night poutine. If you’re planning your first visit or returning to explore deeper, knowing where to stay in Montréal can completely shape your experience.

TL;DR Short on time? Here’s the quick version

Montréal’s neighborhoods each offer a different vibe — Downtown for convenience, Old Montréal for romance, and the Plateau for local charm. For the best value from the airport, take the 747 Express Bus ($11 CAD, includes 24-hour metro pass). For more on exploring the city, check out my 20 Hours in Montréal: A Luxury Stopover Guide.

These are spaces with character: art-filled lobbies, thoughtful design, and the kind of details that make you want to linger longer. I’ve stayed at several on this list, and they’re where I send friends who ask for something special.

Expert Booking Tips (Don’t Skip This!)

Airport Transportation (YUL → Downtown): The 747 Bus

This is the most valuable tip I can give you. The 747 Express Bus is the most cost-effective option — it runs 24/7 between Montréal-Trudeau Airport and downtown.

  • Cost: $11 CAD. This fare also gives you a 24-hour pass for the entire bus and metro system. You can pay on the bus with exact change (coins only) or buy a pass at the airport kiosks.

  • The Route (This is Key!): The 747 bus makes several stops. The two most important are:
    1. Lionel-Groulx Station: This is the first major stop. Get off here if you need to connect to the Green Line (for hotels like Hôtel Vogue or Le Mount Stephen near Peel Station) or stay on the Orange Line.

    2. Berri-UQAM Station: This is the last stop, located downtown. Stay on if you are staying near M Montréal, the Latin Quarter, or need to connect to the Yellow Line.

  • A taxi or Uber costs roughly $45–$55 CAD and takes about 25–35 minutes, while the bus takes 40-60 minutes depending on traffic.

Travel Rewards & Points

If you hold an Amex Platinum, check the Fine Hotels & Resorts portal for properties like the Fairmont, Four Seasons, or Vogue. The perks (room upgrades, free breakfast, $100 credit, 4 PM late checkout) are often worth more than the points you’d earn elsewhere.

Seasonal Pricing

Hotel rates skyrocket during major events like the Grand Prix (June), Montréal Jazz Fest (June/July), Osheaga (August), and Just for Laughs (July). Book far in advance if your dates overlap.

Use the Map

If you’re a visual planner, you can use a map to see real-time hotel and apartment prices by neighborhood. It’s great for finding deals in a specific area.

Final Thoughts

Every Montréal stay I’ve experienced — from the elegant calm of Hôtel Vogue to the minimalist beauty of Maison Sainte-Thérèse — has revealed a different layer of the city.

No matter where you stay, Montréal rewards curiosity: cafés hidden in alleys, murals on around many corners, and locals who’ll switch between English and French mid-sentence with a smile.

So choose your neighborhood, grab that 24-hour Metro pass, and let this city’s unique rhythm find you.
